How to get to Banpo Hangang Park

Thanks to Seoul’s great transportation system, getting to Banpo Hangang Park is easy. While you could take a taxi or drive, public transport is the best option.

By Subway

If you’re taking Seoul Subway lines 3, 7, or 9, hop off at Express Bus Terminal Station and head towards Exit 8-1 or 8-2. From there, just walk about 250 meters straight ahead. When you reach the Express Bus Terminal intersection, take a right and continue for another 400 meters. After crossing the road, go through the underpass, and voila, you’ve arrived at Banpo Hangang Park! It’s a leisurely 15-20 minute stroll from the station.

Alternatively, if you’re riding Seoul Subway line 4, get off at Dongjak Station and take Exit 1. Once you’re out of the station, walk straight ahead for about 20 meters until you reach the Banpo Jugong Apartments. Make a left turn there and keep walking straight for approximately 900 meters until you reach the entrance of Banpo Hangang Park. It’s a bit of a longer walk, but still quite manageable.

By Bus

If you choose to go by bus, you can opt for Blue Buses number 405 and 740, which conveniently stop at the Banpo Hangang Park Sebitseom bus station. This way, you’ll get a direct ride to the park, making it super easy for folks who prefer taking the bus to have a stress-free journey.

Tips

• Plan your visit around the Rainbow Bridge Moonlight Fountain. This spectacular show is highly sought after, so check the schedule and plan to arrive early to find a good spot.
• Pack a picnic lunch or dinner. There are plenty of grassy areas where you can relax and enjoy a meal with friends or family. You can also buy snacks and drinks from the convenience stores or vendors near the park.
• Catch a sunset. Banpo Hangang Park is a great place to watch the sunset over the Han River. The views are especially beautiful on a clear day.
• Bring sunscreen and a hat. The sun can be strong in Seoul, especially during the summer months. Protect yourself from the sun by bringing sunscreen and a hat.

Some Sevit

Some Sevit is a cultural complex composed of three floating islands near the southern end of Banpo Bridge. They represent different stages of a flower’s life. The biggest island, Some Gavit, looks like a fully bloomed flower and hosts various events. Some Chavit resembles a flower bud and has cultural zones and eateries. Some Solvit, the smallest island, looks like a seed and offers water sports and scenic views. 

Since the three islands are linked, it’s worth taking a stroll while checking out the awesome views of the Han River and Banpo Bridge from the island. You can admire cool lights changing colors, catch a glimpse of the seasonal flowers, and snap some pics at the designated photo spots around the place! Plus, the lighting theme changes throughout the year, so it’s always fun to swing by, no matter the season!

 Banpo Bridge Rainbow Fountain

It has 380 nozzles spraying water from the Han River below, creating a dynamic display of music and movement. It transitions from vibrant rainbow colors to a single hue before returning to rainbow hues. The color changes gradually, so be sure to keep an eye out! The show runs for 20 minutes, followed by a 10-minute break before resuming.

Seoraeseom, an artificial island just west of Banpo Bridge on the south side of the Han River, was constructed in the mid-1980s. You can access it via three bridges linked to Banpo Hangang Park. The island’s beauty shines through its riverside promenade, adorned with elegant weeping willows and vibrant seasonal flowers. This is one of the few places in Seoul where you can find the bright yellow canola flower. The island hosts the Canola Flower Festival in the spring and the Buckwheat Festival in the autumn.

You can take a leisurely walk along the island’s trail and relax on benches while enjoying views of the northern part of the Han River. The large grassy area is a favorite spot for locals to unwind. This three-story building sits on the Han River and features a convenience store, terrace, restaurant, and party venue. What makes it special is the setup on the terrace in front of the convenience store, where you’ll find tables and chairs for anyone to grab a bite or a drink. It’s the perfect spot to chill out and enjoy the sunset on one side while watching people engage in water activities on the other. It’s a great place to soak up the atmosphere and unwind by the river!

Biking along the park

Biking along the Han River is an amazing way to enjoy its beauty. You can enjoy the stunning bridges and seasonal flowers while cycling. Renting a tandem bike can add to the fun if you’re with a friend or partner. There’s a bike rental kiosk near Banpo Bridge where you can easily rent a bike for a pleasant ride along the river. Rental rates are reasonable, starting at 3,000 won ($2.25) for the first hour and 500 won ($0.3) for every 15 minutes after that. Just don’t forget to bring a photo ID for the rental, which you’ll need to return to the same kiosk.
