Compare Seoul Shows and Musicals

Seoul's show scene runs wider than most visitors expect. Nanta and the other non verbal performances are the best known, and alongside them you will find licensed and immersive musicals, Korean original music dramas and plays, comedy and magic, K-pop shows and fan tours, live jazz, pub nights that combine a drink with a performance, traditional Korean music, and a set of adults-only show musicals. Each is grouped separately above so you can jump to the kind of night you want.

Some shows need no Korean at all. Nanta, The Painters and Jump are non verbal, built on drumming, painting and physical comedy, and they are the safest choice if you speak no Korean. Most Korean music dramas on this page list English, Japanese and Chinese subtitle support; a few do not. Musical FROZEN and Hell's Kitchen are licensed Korean language productions with no foreign subtitles, and Office Romance Report has Japanese subtitles only. Check the language line on each listing before you book.

Nanta is the usual answer and it earns it. About 90 minutes of kitchen comedy built on drumming and knife work, it has no dialogue, and is by far the largest review base in this comparison. The Painters and Jump are the other two safe first choices, one built on live painting and dance, the other on comic martial arts. All three work whatever language you speak, which is why they suit a first trip better than a Korean language musical.

Most Seoul shows here run about 90 minutes. Jazz sets are the shortest at 55, The Painters and Jump run 70 to 80, Nanta runs 90 to 120 minutes depending on the listing, Korean music dramas run 80 to 110, and the licensed musicals are the longest at 135 to 180 minutes. A few listings on this page are K-pop fan tours which run 6.5 to 7 hours, and the idol pre-recording tours run 10 to 11 hours because they include transport and studio visits.

Most Seoul show and musical tickets fall between $24 and $59, with a median of about $33. The cheapest are jazz bar entry at about $13 and the taekwondo pub night at $14. Mainstream shows such as Nanta and The Painters sit in the mid-$20s to high-$30s depending on the platform and seat tier. Licensed musicals such as "Dear Evan Hansen" and "Sleep No More" are the priciest at $60 to $120. The K-pop tour products reach $149, since those are full-day tours rather than tickets.

Yes for most of them. The non verbal shows work for any age, and Jump and Nanta are popular with families. Two things to know: a group of shows on this page, including Wild Wild, Touch Five, Hunky Show and Sexy Men Standing, admit women aged 19 and over only, and men will be refused at the door. Sleep No More Seoul is 19 and over for everyone. These are grouped under Adults-Only Show Musicals category so they are easy to skip.

There is no reason to wait. About half of the listings here offer free cancellation up to 24 hours before the show, and most of the rest allow it two to three days out, so booking as soon as you have a date costs you little if plans change. A handful are exceptions: three are marked "No Cancellation" and three more are explicitly 'non refundable,' and those are worth confirming before you pay. Seat tiers on the popular shows also sell down, so the cheaper seats go first.

Most venues cluster in a few areas. Nanta has theaters in 明洞 (NAIST) と 弘大, The Painters plays at Gwanghwamun Theater near Seodaemun station, Touch Five is in Hongdae, and the entry55 jazz bar has branches in 聖水, 江南, and Sadang. Most listings name the venue and nearest station on the OTA page. Check that before booking, especially for shows that run at more than one theater, since your ticket is usually tied to a single venue.
