Join the revival of Admiral Yi Sun-sin’s maritime exploration spirit and courage at the “2023 Samcheok Donghae Wang Isabu Festival.” This festival celebrates the historical, cultural, and artistic heritage centered around Admiral Yi Sabu, who played a pivotal role in making the Ulleungdo and Dokdo islands part of our territory 1,500 years ago. By hosting an array of events from October 6th’s opening ceremony and celebratory performances to October 7th’s radio and TV broadcasts, October 8th’s Yi Sabu quiz competition, and K-TIGERS’ taekwondo performance, the festival aims to brand the maritime history figure of the East Sea and boost local tourism.

Additionally, a special exhibition, Ulleungdo and Dokdo Ecology Photo Exhibition by the National Science Museum, along with various competitions and events, will breathe life into Yi Sabu’s story, making it not just a tale of history but a living story within our lives. On October 6th, the day the festival kicks off, we hope that Samcheok citizens, all Koreans, and especially, all of us, the precious visitors, will come together at this festival.
